ELECTRIC CAR PROJECT 9311 DIARY, DEC 1993
---------------------------------------------------------------------
12/01/93
Removed tunnel cover and decoupled shift rod. Devised means of
locating transmission for installation later. Disconnected drive
shafts from differential flanges. Put jack under engine. Removed
transmission support bolts. Removed engine support bolts. Lowered
engine on jack whence it promply fell off. After fiddling around,
got engine on roll-around platform.

12/02/93
Removed starter motor. Examined mysterious rivet. It would appear
that, by means of special spacer and screw, the rivet must be
pulled out to relieve tension on release bearing.

12/04/93
Removed rear cross member engine support. Removed engine wiring
harness that ended in 14-pin plug. Sorted out wiring in engine
compartment.

12/05/93
Put front of car on jack stands.

12/07/93
Removed stone guard. Drained gas. Removed fuel tank. Found fuel pump
near left rear wheel and removed. Removed tank filler tube. Began
removing fuel lines and evaporation control system hoses from engine
compartment.

12/08/93
Removed rest of fuel and evaporation control system hoses. Removed
flexible ducts from heater mixer boxes. Removed heater cables and
lever. Removed seats. Removed manual throttle lever. Removed defrost
light near handbrake lever. Removed starter motor cable and cable to
right side battery.

12/10/93
Separated transmission from engine. Made special spacers out of some
brass fittings purchased at hardware store. Look awful. Worked fine.
The business about "turning the release bearing through 90 degrees"
makes no sense. Does nothing to further the process. I just wiggled
the transmission and pulled away from engine while turning throwout
lever to the left. This caused fork to disengage from throwout
bearing.

12/11/93
Removed clutch pressure plate cover and clutch. The clutch needs to
be replaced. Everything else is okay.

12/22/93
Had transmission and fuel tank steam cleaned.
